Every file you upload is stored in an ephemeral workspace and permanently wiped automatically.
All transfers are encrypted with military-grade HTTPS/TLS 1.3 protocols in-flight and at rest.
Your documents are NEVER used for machine learning, AI model training, or data sharing.
1. Our Core Commitment to Privacy
At PDFtan, we believe that your documents belong strictly to you. Unlike traditional SaaS platforms that warehouse user data in permanent cloud buckets, PDFtan is engineered from the ground up as a Zero-Retention Processing Pipeline.
2. How Document Processing Works
When you upload a file to convert, compress, merge, or sign:
- Your file is assigned a unique, cryptographically random ephemeral UUID workspace.
- Processing is executed by native headless Linux engines (QPDF, Ghostscript, LibreOffice, Tesseract OCR) on high-speed NVMe RAM drives.
- Once you download your output, or after 15 to 60 minutes of inactivity, our automated storage janitor permanently wipes all source and result files via OS-level unlinking.
3. Information We Collect
We only collect the absolute minimum telemetry required to operate the service and prevent abuse:
- Guest Visitors: Anonymized IP hash used solely for sliding-window daily quota enforcement (50-800 tasks/day).
- Registered Users: Email address and authentication UID from Firebase/Google Auth.
- Diagnostics: Conversion duration in milliseconds and success/failure error codes (no document contents or text metadata is ever logged).
4. Cookies and Local Storage
PDFtan does not use invasive tracking cookies or third-party behavioral ad trackers. Local storage is used exclusively to maintain your active theme and session authentication token.
